Australian Shepherd Dog Description
The Australian Shepherd Dog is a medium sized, solid herding breed of dog. They are very attractive to look at with many variations of coat and eye colourings. Their coats can be blue or red merle, black, totally red or black with tan. The eyes can vary from brown, blue and amber and can be both coloured the same or a combination. Their ears are triangular and dropped but set fairly high on their head. The breed has a naturally short, bobbed tail.Australian Shepherd Dog Character
The breed is akin to the Border Collie and possesses a remarkably fierce herding instinct and prey drive making it unsuitable to reside with other animals. If introduced to children from an early age though it will accept them. Australian Shepherd Dogs are very vocal and have a strange combination between a bark and a howl. Extremely intelligent and highly active needing a high level of daily exercise and a purpose in life. Please note: This is only a guide.
