Basset Hound Description
Basset Hounds have a whimsical appearance they are almost a big dog popped onto short legs! A low set, long hound with a deep chest, large head and droopy eyelids. The breed has beautiful, velvety, pendent styled ears. They possess a pronounced dewlap. The coat is short and shiny, the colour is generally tan and white with black markings.Basset Hound Character
The Basset Hound is sociable, calm and extremely playful. They adore children and accept other dogs well. They have a deep bark. Basset Hounds are truly devoted to their owners and family and are exceptionally loyal. They have a keen sense of smell and this can prove problematic whilst they are enjoying off lead exercise as they will follow a scent and wander off. Basset Hounds are heavy boned dogs and due to their short legs must not become obese as this will cause the dog trouble walking. Basset Hounds certainly have a mind of their own but with love and patience they can be trained, just not easily! Please note: This is only a guide.
