Bouvier des Flandres Description

The Bouvier des Flandres, which when translated means ‘cowherd from Flanders,’ can also be known as the Belgian Cattle Dog. They are a rugged looking dog but this only adds to their immense charm, with their gorgeous moustache, beard and bushy eyebrows they are adorable! Their ears are triangular in shape and set high on the dog’s head, the eyes are oval and deep brown. The tail is also set high, the Bouvier des Flandres is a powerful looking breed, and colours include grey, black, brindle and fawn. The coat is wiry and very dense.

They can look pretty intimidating due to their size and the fact that actually observing their eyes is a challenge but the Bouvier des Flandres is a placid and gentle dog. They are easy to train and learn quickly making them an ideal canine student, the training needs to be firm but always kind as the breed can have dominant tendencies. The Bouvier des Flandres adores children and due to its calm nature is an excellent choice as a family dog; they do require lots of exercise though and will only remain calm if their needs are met. Usually good with other dogs and normally accepting of cats but care is advised when it comes to smaller animals.
