Deerhound

Deerhound Description

The Deerhound is a large breed of dog with a shaggy coat which, even when groomed, retains its unkempt appearance. They stand very tall and possess a willowy look, they have a tapering muzzle and a long, thin tail normally carried low and between the dog’s hind legs. The ears are small and are generally held flat against the Deerhound’s head, their coat has a coarse texture and colours include the most seen grey and also brindle, red and sandy varieties are seen.

The Deerhound is a gentle and exceptionally sweet natured breed of dog; they are friendly and intelligent with a love for children and family life. They were originally bred for hunting and can cover a great amount of distance in a short time span, striding out with their long legs effortlessly, the absolute perfect running machine. Caution is strongly advised when it comes to other smaller pets as the Deerhound does possess a strong prey drive and hunting instinct. They are a loyal dog but too reserved to be a watchdog, being wary but not aggressive. The Deerhound is a charming breed of dog the perfect gentleman of the canine world.
